Founded by Gottlieb Hauser in 1883, Alpina has been a creative swiss brand from the early 20th century where they manufactured watch movements and calibers for both the Swiss and the German market. They focus much on rugged tool watches that provide supplies even to the military back then and continuing their legacy till today. They are currently the sister brand of Frederique Constant, whose primary focus is classic watches. Alpina, on the other hand, specializes in sports watches, mainly the Alpiner (Land), Seastrong (Sea) and Startimer (Air) while consistently providing accessible luxury watches. Today, we are proud to be the first to introduce, the all-new Alpiner 4 Dark Green in 44mm.
The Alpiner 4 Collection integrates the concept of "4" that served as a base in 1938, when Alpina invented the concept of the Swiss Sports watch.
More than any other watchmaker, Alpina was responsible for the concept of the modern Swiss sports watch, as it is known today. After several patents to ensure water-resistance and following the development of the famous Alpina "Block Uhr" in 1933, in 1938 Alpina presents the "Alpina 4": the first modern Swiss sports watch. The concept behind the "Alpina 4" was to combine the 4 essential features that defined a sports watch, in one single timepiece:
1. Anti-magnetic, 2. Anti-shock, 3. Water-resistant and 4. Stainless
Such had to be a sports watch, in the vision of the Alpina founder Gottlieb Hauser, to be able to tackle the entire vertical Alpine sports environment, from mountain climbing to alpine lake diving. In 2014, Alpina revived the Alpina "4" concept with its new "Alpiner 4" collection, dedicated to the Alpine sports universe.
Designed from scratch, the Alpina takes on a classic design from their current lineup, still reminiscent of the elegant 2—part antimagnetic case watches from the previous 44mm iterations. The watch now has current specifications of 44mm and 13.5mm thick. The sporty size is indeed has made this watch extremely comfortable on all wrist sizes.
Made out of 316L stainless steel, the case distills a distinctive twisted lugs design while being sharp-looking and feel altogether in a wearable package. Together with its multi-finishings that often punches way above Alpina’s price-point, the overall look is conspicuously multi-layered, faceted with an ultra-modern look in addition to the brand’s spirit in which resonates with the all-rounder sports watch theme. Paired with a multi-finished stainless steel bracelet, this piece looks incredibly versatile and ready to be strapped on the wrist for many occasions
The simplicity and effectiveness of the horizontal patterned dial underline the professional nature of this watch, while the 60min steel bezel allows for key sports time measurement functions. With the new Alpiner 4 Automatic, Alpina also re-introduces its signature “Sunray forest green” coloured dial, the distinctive colour that keeps this piece sporty. A date display at 3 o’clock further seals the deal of a good daily-beater for its wearer.
At the heart of the Alpiner 4 lies the Alpina self-winding caliber AL-525 automatic movement that offers a power reserve of 38 hours that beats at a rate of 28,800 beats per hour. This 26 jewel movement is based on the ever-reliable Sellita SW200-1 movement, a movement renowned for its reliability and performance. At the back of the watch, the engraved screw-down case back protects the movement against accidental splashes with a water resistance of 100m (330 ft).
Alpina has continued to carry their legacy in Swiss watchmaking to produce many well-built watches today based on their heritage designs. The Alpiner 4 packs an unbeatable value with great specifications that ticks all the right boxes for a dependable everyday tool watch ready for your next adventure.
